The Super Kit takes educational robotics to the next level. Students can use the familiar handheld Controller with the pre-programmed code to drive robots right out of the box or program them to run autonomously using the additional Smart Sensors. While the included Clawbot IQ instructions help students easily build their first robot, the wide variety of additional included parts means that a team of students can build a robot that is bigger, stronger, and more functional.
Perfect for any STEM or Computer Science class, students can build and program with this engaging hands-on teaching tool. This robotics kit can be re-purposed to teach a variety of lessons ranging from mechanical advantage to computer programming and iterative design. Integrate this solution into your existing curriculum, or pair it seamlessly with our standards-aligned STEM Labs.
When researching this guide, we interviewed three experts: Jenny Young, who owns the Brooklyn Robot Foundry makerspace; Marina Umaschi Bers, a professor of human development and computer science at Tufts University and chief scientist at KinderLab Robotics; and Andrew Terranova, a hobby roboticist who writes about robotics kits for Make magazine. During a second round of testing, we also tasked three children ages 9 to 11 with programming four robots and picking their favorite.
For our initial round of testing in 2017, we tried seven robotics kits. In 2019, we tested four new kits against our top pick, the Lego Boost set. Our second round of testing included three kids ages 9 to 11. They spent 20 minutes programming, playing with, and breaking four robots that had been assembled in advance. The kids received no assistance from their parents, though they occasionally asked me for help. In 2020, we tested the new Lego Mindstorms Robot Inventor set. In 2021, we tested seven additional robotics kits and gathered notes from two children, ages 6 and 9, on our favorite.
Take educational robotics to the next level by competing in the VEX Robotics Competition. The only limit to this open-ended building system is your own imagination! The V5 Competition Starter Kit includes a complete V5 control system, aluminum structural elements, and high strength parts so that a team of students can build a bigger, stronger, and faster robot.
Each kit includes a powerful motor with an inline on and off switch that allows you to put your machines to work while you watch. The VEX Robotics Motor Kit is a great enhancement for all of the VEX Robotics Ball Machines. HEXBUG is dedicated to inspiring future generations of scientists and robotics engineers through the fun of hands-on learning with our STEM-based robotics construction kits. Powered by 3 C-cell batteries (not included).
Autodesk is proud to partner with VEX Robotics and the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields, helping close the global skills gap and connecting education to industry through hands-on, curriculum-based robotics engineering programs.
Autodesk software is integrated into nearly half of the units in the VEX EDR Curriculum, while detailed tutorials appear in Units 4 and 13. Unit 4 teaches teams to use Inventor to design and build their VEX robots, and Unit 13 shows how to use Fusion or Inventor to design, model, and 3D print custom robotics parts.
Hello Ken: I think the VEX Kit is worth the money. I am an adult mentor for our newly formed robotics team and we are participating in the VEX pilot program. I cannot compare it to any other kits as this is our first year in a robotics program. I wish some of our students were here to tell you about the Vex kit. They really have been getting alot out of it. Everything in the kit seems to be of good quality especially the electronics. The metal pieces are easy to work with as far as cutting and bending if needed. A good selection of fasteners and spacers is included as well as a couple of different types of limit switches. There are no belts, chains, or pulleys though and I think that would be a nice addition in future kits. It would be nice to see some timing gears and belts of various sizes and my bet is that there will be in future kits. They did a very good job with this kit. We are a small budget private school and probably would not have been able to start a robotics program without a kit of this kind. I highly recommend VEX! Our team will be competing in Atlanta and our students are very excited about going. The VEX kit has really ignited the enthusiasm of our students and our robotics program. Thanks,Greg

Introducing . . . LEGO Education SPIKE Prime! LEGO continues to adapt its robotics education materials to new technology. SPIKE incorporates Scratch coding blocks, which means that, even more than before, youth who take the project learn readily transferable skills. We recommend buying this special bundle called the SPIKE Prime kit (careful, not the less expensive \"essential\" kit).
Mission 200 is a partnership between the Southeastern Center of Robotics Education (SCORE) at Auburn University and the REC Foundation. During the 2019-20 school year, they aim to start 200 new VEX-IQ elementary and middle school robotics competition teams in the states of Alabama and Tennessee, with a focus on rural, urban, and under-resourced schools.
At the high school or middle school level there is no single best way for students to get a robotics education: there are many ways, and each way reaches the students differently. The easiest way is for students to join an established team: FIRST Robotics (FLL, FTC, or FRC) teams, VEX robotics teams, BEST Robotics teams, and Botball teams. For a shorter-term experience, students can enroll in various summer camps at a local science center or other locations. Finally, their teachers can offer to integrate commercially-available Hummingbird Robotics kits into the curriculum at multiple levels.
The greater Pittsburgh area in Pennsylvania is a wonderful place to get a robotics education if you are a middle school or high school student. Teachers here have access to workshops and professional development programs so they can be trained to bring robotics into the classroom using the Hummingbird Robotics kit or the LEGO Robotics kits. Students can enroll in summer camps to learn robotics at the Carnegie Science Center, Carnegie Mellon University, or Sarah Heinz House, and they can join FIRST or VEX community robotics teams at CMU (Girls of Steel) and Sarah Heinz House or the teams at their schools.
